Remembering my high school friends...

I had three high school "groups": (1) my "main" barkada; (2) my "intellectual" barkada; and (3) my seatmates/partners-in-crime.

My "main" barkada was my real barkada. Actually, we're still a pretty solid group till now. The word that would best describe us would be: DIVERSE. The 19 people part who were (and still ARE) part of this barkada all had distinct personalities. We weren't a nerd barkada, because we had "anti-nerds" as well. We weren't "pop kids" but, both individually and as a group, I can safely say that we had a lot of friends outside the barkada. We still see each other relatively often. Two of my best friends come from this barkada. I'm still close to these kabarkadas. In fact, I can honestly say that, even if we don't get to talk as much and we used to, and our lives have become increasingly different (different interests, life goals, career paths, and/or, even, different countries of residence), there's still a lot of love there.

My "intellectual" barkada... Hmmm.... How do I go about describing this group? Well, let's just say we were perfectly fine with the label "smart people." We didn't even care if people thought we were geeks or nerds. We liked talking about stuff that other people couldn't care less about. We see each other every now and then, but there are some people from this group whom I haven't seen or talked to in ages. Yet, overall, I still think of most of them as "my good friends" and all that. :)

My seatmates/partners-in-crime kept high school interesting. Since my other friends didn't smoke or drink. I smoked around them (in fact, some of them smoked with me). We had a little "cupboard" in the classroom, with our "stash" (aka food), which we ate while class was going on. Oh, did I mention, that eating was "strictly prohibited" in the classoom and that we did this despite the fact that the teacher could give us shit for doing so if she caught us? These things kept me awake in class. Well, I was actually just "sabit" and not really part of this barkada, but we were pretty good friends. I haven't seen them in a long time... Possibly since early law school. I don't even know if I still have anything to say if I ever get to hang out with them. In any case, I still hope to get to hang out with some of them in the future. Especially the ones whom I considered as pretty good friends.

I loved the fact that I got to hang out with 3 sets of friends who were so DIFFERENT from each other. It was like each group fit the various aspects of my personality.

Thinking about these people still manages to make me smile...
